Er, yay?
Basically, my poor left eye is afflicted with Coat’s, but not the usual genetic kind, oh no, that would be too simple.
Manifested Coat’s Disease
Which is a fancy way of saying a major blow to my head caused a minor tear in my retina several years ago, and as it scarred over and tried to heal, created abnormal blood vessels.
Why did this go undetected for 10 years?
Because it was in my periphery vision, of which I have none to begin with, so I didnt realize my eye was damaged in the first place.
Brilliant, eh?
And what head injury caused this you ask, why none other than a broken cheekbone during my 7th grade year of school.
It went unnoticed for so long because of its location, most doctors dont look at the under part of your eye, since it doesnt affect your vision, and that where my silent doom maker was lying in wait, just waiting for the perfect moment to explode and cause me blinding pain (hehe, blinding, get it?) for the better part of a week.
Currently I still have minor bleeding and exploding vessels every few weeks, but since my vision doesnt change and I am not in pain, Dr. S is reluctant to do corrective surgery. Mostly on the knowledge of how thin my retina is in the affected area, and its so close to the optic nerve, surgery is just too risky at this point.
Other than that, my eyes are healthy, hurray. Plus, its a load off my chest to know exactly what set off this crazy chain of events.
So with appts scheduled for early June, we’ll check the status of my poor eyeballs, and know more then.
Ima go drink now, this whole week has been a big stress pile of doom! Dooooooooooooom!
